Christopher Alexander Arrojo, a 29-year-old male from Charlotte, North Carolina, tragically lost his life on January 9, 2025. Arrojo, originally from Coral Gables, Florida, was known for his kindness and generosity. His untimely death occurred when he pulled over to assist someone in distress, an act of goodwill that ultimately led to him becoming the victim of gun violence.
His passing was described as both sudden and senseless, leaving his family, friends, and community in mourning.
The incident took place on the southbound ramp of Interstate 85 at W. WT Harris Boulevard in Charlotte. Authorities responded to a vehicle crash call shortly before 10:00 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Arrojo suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel transported him to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Law enforcement swiftly identified and arrested 24-year-old Marquail Burris as the primary suspect in the case. Burris was taken into custody without further incident and was charged with multiple offenses, including murder, carrying a concealed weapon, and hit-and-run. Following his arrest, Burris was transferred to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office for further legal proceedings.
Investigators determined that the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident, marking it as Charlotte’s first homicide of 2025. The case remains active, with authorities continuing to gather evidence and seek additional information. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has urged anyone with relevant details to come forward to aid in the investigation.
