On October 19, 2023, at approximately 2:33 p.m., 20-year-old Donyelle Monteith Hill Jr. was shot in the 5200 block of North Sharon Amity Road in Charlotte, North Carolina. Emergency responders arrived promptly, and Hill was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
In the immediate aftermath, detectives from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) identified 31-year-old Terry Lowery as a suspect.
On October 24, 2023, the CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team arrested Lowery, charging him with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
Despite medical intervention, Hill succumbed to his injuries on December 28, 2023. Upon his death, CMPD homicide detectives obtained a murder warrant against Lowery. Later that evening, Lowery was apprehended again, interviewed by detectives, and subsequently charged with murder. He was then transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
The investigation into Hill's death remains active and ongoing. CMPD continues to seek information from the public to aid in their efforts.
