Upon arrival, they discovered 25-year-old Khyré Jamaal Grier deceased in the driver's seat of his tow truck, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Grier, employed by Carolina Towing Company LLC, was in the process of repossessing a vehicle when the incident occurred.
The investigation led to the swift identification and arrest of 49-year-old Fabio Herminio Funes on the same day. Funes was charged with first-degree murder following an interview with detectives.
Subsequently, authorities identified a second suspect, 34-year-old Ramon Alexi Santos Funes, believed to be involved in the homicide. On October 2, 2024, Ramon Funes was apprehended by the Orange County Sheriff's Office in Texas. He was extradited to Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, to face charges related to Grier's death.
Khyré Grier is remembered as a dedicated father to two young sons, a five-year-old and a newborn. His mother, Tamara Grier, expressed profound grief over the loss of her son, emphasizing his passion for his work and his love for cars.
