On September 26, 2024, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officers responded to a welfare check on Eastcrest Drive in east Charlotte, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 25-year-old Khyré Jamaal Grier deceased in the driver's seat of his tow truck, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Grier, employed by Carolina Towing Company LLC, was in the process of repossessing a vehicle when the incident occurred.
