Eric was a freshman at Saint Augustine’s University, known for his devotion, authenticity, and intelligence. He was fatally shot near the corner of Farmington Ridge Parkway and Caldwell Road in University City, Charlotte.
The shooting occurred close to midnight, and Eric was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Eric's death led to the arrest of multiple suspects. On October 8, 2021, Brian Adam Monroy, an 18-year-old male, was arrested and charged with murder. Additionally, a 17-year-old juvenile male was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. Eric's passing deeply affected his community, including his family, friends, and fellow students at Saint Augustine’s University. His homegoing service was held on October 12, 2021, at St. Paul Baptist Church in Charlotte. During the service, James Benton, a recruiter for the Saint Augustine’s Office of Admissions, spoke about Eric's determination and the support he received from his family. Eric's friend, Lashanti McGriff, also shared heartfelt memories, highlighting his efforts to better himself and his devotion to his mother.
