On the evening of April 20, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Austin Police Department officers responded to multiple calls reporting gunfire at a parking garage located at 2604 Aldrich Street in Austin, Texas. Upon arrival, officers discovered two men lying on the ground with apparent gunshot wounds. The victims were identified as Kendrick Parker, a 32-year-old Black male, and Shamar Roach, a 24-year-old Black male. Both men were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The incident stemmed from a child custody dispute between two groups. According to preliminary investigations, Parker and Roach were involved in an altercation with another group consisting of a male and a female. The dispute escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the male suspect on scene fired shots, fatally wounding Parker and Roach. Witness interviews helped detectives identify a suspect vehicle, leading to a be-on-the-lookout alert issued by law enforcement.

Later that night, officers from the Manor Police Department initiated a stop on the suspect vehicle. The driver, Darius Sebastian Hatcher, a 26-year-old Black male, was taken into custody and transported to Austin Police Department Headquarters for questioning. Hatcher provided a statement during the interview, and further investigative efforts led detectives to gather additional evidence. On May 12, 2025, an arrest warrant was issued for Hatcher, charging him with Capital Murder of Multiple Persons. The Texas Lone Star Fugitive Task Force assisted in locating and arresting Hatcher two days later.

At this time, authorities have confirmed that there are no outstanding suspects related to the case. The investigation remains ongoing, and law enforcement officials continue to seek additional witnesses who may have information regarding the events leading up to the shooting. Residents of the Aldrich 51 Apartments, where the incident occurred, have expressed concerns about security in the complex, citing previous criminal activity in the area. Some residents have called for increased security measures to prevent further violence.

The deaths of Kendrick Parker, a 32-year-old Black male, and Shamar Roach, a 24-year-old Black male, mark Austin’s 18th and 19th homicides of 2025. Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to contact the Austin Police Department or submit anonymous tips through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program.
