On April 21, 2025, 34-year-old David "Paperboy" Leon Smith II, a White male from Bridgeport, Texas, was fatally shot in a rural area between Alvord and Decatur. At approximately 2:03 a.m., deputies from the Wise County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call reporting a shooting in the 1200 block of County Road 2395. Upon arrival, they discovered David Smith II deceased at the scene. His body was transported to the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
