On April 21, 2025, 34-year-old David "Paperboy" Leon Smith II, a White male from Bridgeport, Texas, was fatally shot in a rural area between Alvord and Decatur. At approximately 2:03 a.m., deputies from the Wise County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call reporting a shooting in the 1200 block of County Road 2395. Upon arrival, they discovered David Smith II deceased at the scene. His body was transported to the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
David Smith II was born on February 13, 1991, in Denton, Texas, to David Leon and Barbara Smith. Known affectionately as "Paperboy," he was a passionate truck driver who relished the freedom of the open road. He enjoyed cooking, spending time at the lake, and sharing these moments with family and friends. He is survived by his daughter, Kadey Nichole Morgan; his father, David Smith, and stepmother, Crystal; his brother, Michael Shane Smith; and several other relatives and close friends.
At the time of the incident, two individuals were present at the scene and were interviewed by Wise County Sheriff's Office investigators and Texas Rangers. As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
