In Chattanooga, Tennessee, a verbal dispute inside a gas station escalated into a fatal shooting, claiming the life of 28-year-old Marquise Dwyane Jones. The Black / African American man was at the Hop-in station on Brainerd Road when the altercation occurred, leading to gunfire. A second individual, a 27-year-old man, was also shot during the incident but ultimately survived his injuries.
Following the shooting on February 13, 2025, the individual responsible for the gunfire remained at
the scene and was in contact with law enforcement. This person asserted that the shooting was an act of self-defense. The Chattanooga Police Department has been investigating the circumstances surrounding the altercation and the subsequent shooting. Authorities have also been in consultation with the district attorney's office to determine whether any charges will be filed in connection with the death of Marquise Jones.
