Deonte James, a 23-year-old African American male, was found dead in a car by railroad tracks on Lightfoot Mill Road in Chattanooga, TN, on August 8, 2017. Chattanooga Police responded to a call from Norfolk Southern Police about a suspicious vehicle on the side of the road. Upon arrival, officers discovered James inside the vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. Hamilton County EMS pronounced him deceased at the scene.
