The events of that evening began when Rodney Jennings, 27, arrived unannounced at the home of White's cousin. Jennings was there to see his children, and a dispute arose when he refused to leave the premises.
White confronted Jennings, and the argument escalated. As Jennings was backing out of the door, he shot White once in the chest. Emergency services were called, and White was transported to a local hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Following the shooting, law enforcement identified Rodney Jennings as the suspect and initiated a search. He was later apprehended in Memphis. The case proceeded through the legal system, with eyewitnesses recalling the events of that fatal night during the subsequent murder trial. In 2016, a jury found Rodney Jennings guilty of second-degree murder for the shooting death of Rafael White.
