In the autumn of 2021, the life of Alfred Clarence Pitmon, Sr., a 48-year-old man from Chattanooga, Tennessee, was tragically cut short. On October 25, 2021, an act of violence led to his untimely death, leaving his family and community to grapple with the sudden loss of a man they remembered as a loving and kindhearted individual who always saw the good in everyone.
The investigation into his death led to the arrest of Marvin Menifee.
The case proceeded through the justice system, and in March 2023, a jury found Menifee responsible for Pitmon's death. The verdict handed down was guilty of criminally negligent homicide and aggravated robbery. Following the conviction, a Hamilton County Criminal Court judge sentenced Menifee to 25 years in prison for his role in the death of Alfred Pitmon.
During the sentencing, the court heard arguments from Menifee's attorney, who suggested that his client's actions were influenced by a difficult upbringing and poor mental health. In a poignant letter read to the court, Pitmon's family expressed their profound grief, stating that he should still be alive today. They described him as a family man who was always willing to help others. His wife shared the lasting trauma of discovering her husband after he had been shot, a memory that continued to rob her of sleep nearly three years later.
In a further tragic development, it was revealed that Menifee had been out on bond in connection with Pitmon's death when he was arrested again, this time in connection with the killing of another man, Deontay Brown, for which he faces a separate murder charge.
