In the small city of Sunbury, Pennsylvania, a tragedy unfolded on a Friday afternoon, January 3, 2025, forever altering the lives of those involved. Jane White, a 46-year-old mother, artist, and photographer, was found lying in the street on the 1000 block of Court Street, bleeding from a single gunshot wound to the chest. Emergency services were called to the scene around 1:42 p.m., but despite their efforts, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
The investigation into her death quickly led to her boyfriend of seven years, 46-year-old Jared Wolfe of Milton. Following the shooting, Wolfe fled to his brother's house on North 5th Street and confessed to what he had done. His brother then contacted the police, and Wolfe was taken into custody without incident.
During questioning, Wolfe told a bizarre story to the police. He claimed that he, White, and two friends had been smoking what he believed to be marijuana at a friend's apartment. He stated that he became paranoid and believed that White and the others were plotting to kill and eat him. In a state of panic, he ran to his vehicle, retrieved a handgun, and when White opened the passenger door, he shot her. Wolfe admitted to investigators that White was not armed at the time.
Wolfe was arraigned the following morning on charges of murder. He is being held without bail in the Northumberland County Jail. Following a preliminary hearing, a judge ruled that there was enough evidence for him to stand trial on multiple charges, including first-degree murder and aggravated assault. The case is now set to proceed through the court system.
