Londyn Major, 16, a Black/African American female, was shot inside a home on the 2400 block of North Colorado Street in North Philadelphia on the evening of October 14, 2025. Police found her in a second-floor bedroom with a gunshot wound to the stomach; two semiautomatic handguns and a loaded magazine were recovered in the home. She was transported to Temple University Hospital and pronounced dead at 6:46 p.m. that night.
Investigators noted several people, including young children, were in the house and cooperating with interviews, and they began seeking surveillance footage from in and around the property. Early on, police said the shooting might have been accidental while they worked to determine exactly who fired the weapon.
By the end of the week, authorities announced the arrest of 18-year-old Anas Bey of Greenbelt, Maryland, who they said was in the room with Londyn when the gun went off. Bey was taken into custody and charged with third-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, possessing an instrument of crime, and recklessly endangering another person. Police did not release a detailed narrative of the moments leading up to the shooting, leaving open questions about intent even as charges were filed.
As the case moved forward, her family and school community painted a portrait of a bright teenager whose life was cut short. Relatives described her as an honor roll student at Tech Freire Charter High School who loved to travel, cook, paint, and was preparing for college and the SATs. In grief, they also spoke of a compounding tragedy: Londyn’s brother had been shot and killed in North Philadelphia two years earlier at the same age, a burden they hoped to transform into advocacy against gun violence in their community.
