On February 1, 2025, 24-year-old Traeon Vontrez Williams, a Black male from Greenville, North Carolina, was tragically shot and killed in what authorities believe was a targeted incident. The shooting occurred at a residence on Colonial Avenue, where police responded to reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered Williams inside the home, suffering from fatal gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators quickly launched an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and their efforts led to the identification of a suspect. Authorities named 21-year-old Jaiquez Ebron, a Black male from Greenville, North Carolina, as the primary suspect in the murder of Williams. Law enforcement officials issued a warrant for Ebron’s arrest, charging him in connection with the fatal shooting. As the investigation progressed, federal authorities became involved, and the FBI issued a warrant for Ebron on charges of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. Officials believe Ebron may have fled the state and could be hiding in the Memphis, Tennessee area.
