Matthew Williams, a 22-year-old Black man, was killed on April 9, 2025, in Memphis, Tennessee, in a burst of violence that struck during a gathering meant to push violence back. He had gone to a meeting connected to Memphis Allies, a community violence intervention effort, and by the time the afternoon ended, his family was left identifying him in the wake of a shooting that turned an ordinary weekday meeting into a crime scene.
