Dante Wyse, a 23-year-old man from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was found dead on the porch of an apartment in Thomasville on February 2, 2025. Officers from the Thomasville Police Department responded to a report of a possible breaking and entering at approximately 7:15 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Wyse had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities quickly launched an investigation into the incident, treating it as a homicide.
As the investigation unfolded, police determined that the shooting was not a random act of violence. They identified Caleb Mitchell, a 24-year-old man from Greensboro, as the suspect in Wyse’s murder. Mitchell and Wyse were known to each other, though the nature of their relationship has not been publicly disclosed. Following the investigation, Mitchell turned himself in to the Thomasville Police Department on Thursday, several days after the incident. He was subsequently charged with murder and is currently being held without bond at the Davidson County Jail.
Initial reports suggested that the incident may have stemmed from a breaking and entering, but investigators later found no evidence to support that claim. Instead, they focused on the circumstances surrounding the relationship between Wyse and Mitchell. Authorities have not released further details regarding the motive behind the shooting. Mitchell is scheduled to make his first court appearance on June 11, 2025, where he will face formal charges related to the murder of Wyse.
The Thomasville Police Department continues to investigate the case, urging anyone with additional information to come forward. The tragic death of Wyse has left the community searching for answers as law enforcement works to piece together the events leading up to the fatal shooting.
