In a quiet Brighton neighborhood, a devastating act of domestic violence unfolded, claiming the life of 74-year-old Mary Liccini of Avon, her 11-year-old granddaughter Anne 'Annie' Mancuso, and the man responsible, 53-year-old Lawrence Mancuso. The tragedy, which occurred on January 3, 2025, has been identified by authorities as a murder-suicide.
Police were initially called to a home on Hollyvale Drive for a report of an unresponsive female on the front porch.
That individual was identified as young Anne Mancuso, who was suffering from gunshot wounds and was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital, where she later died. The investigation then led officers to an adjacent home where they discovered a bullet hole in a window and the bodies of Mary Liccini and Lawrence Mancuso.
The investigation concluded that Lawrence Mancuso, who was Anne's father and the ex-husband of Mary's daughter, Sarah Liccini, was the perpetrator. Authorities determined that Lawrence shot and killed his daughter and her grandmother before taking his own life. The day prior to the killings, Lawrence Mancuso had contacted police regarding a custodial issue with his daughter.
Mary Liccini was remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was an Air Force veteran and had worked for several years at the Genesee Country Museum. Her granddaughter, Annie, a sixth-grader at Twelve Corners Middle School, was described as a kind, sweet, and beautiful person. The Brighton Central School District mourned the loss of their student and made counseling services available to the community. The motive for the tragic event remains officially unknown, as the perpetrator is deceased.
