In what authorities have described as a tragic murder-suicide, 89-year-old Bernice Dubin was fatally shot by her lifelong partner, Albert Greer, age 83, in Rochester, New York. The incident occurred on a Saturday morning in September 2021 within the Wesley Gardens Nursing Home, where Dubin had recently become a resident due to her declining health.
Greer had come to visit Dubin at the facility. Towards the end of his visit with his partner, he shot her before turning the gun on himself.
Staff at the nursing home responded quickly to the sound of gunshots and attempted to provide life-saving measures, but both Dubin and Greer were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Rochester Police Department investigated the deaths. According to police captain Frank Umbrino, the investigation suggested that Greer had been struggling to cope with Dubin's deteriorating health condition. Authorities stated that no other residents or staff at the nursing home were in any danger during the incident. The case was determined to be a murder-suicide, and therefore no arrests were made as the suspect was also deceased.
