On a summer day in Rochester, New York, the life of 26-year-old Shaniece M. Taylor was tragically cut short. On August 15, 2019, police responded to a report of shots fired at a residence on Fourth Street. Inside, they discovered Taylor, who had been shot 16 times at close range while seated in her home. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation quickly identified her 37-year-old boyfriend, Margzell Miller, as the suspect.
Immediately following the brutal murder, Miller, who was on parole at the time, fled. A manhunt ensued, and with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal's Task Force, he was apprehended. Those who knew Taylor remembered her for her bright smile and equally vibrant personality.
In October 2019, Miller pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and a weapon charge. However, following a trial, a Monroe County jury convicted him on March 31, 2021, of Murder in the 2nd Degree and four counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree. Prosecutors described Miller as a ruthless killer and highlighted the violent and aggressive nature of his actions. They emphasized that he had callously taken the life of a woman he claimed to love. On June 3, 2021, a judge sentenced Margzell Miller to 40 years to life in prison for the murder of Shaniece Taylor. He also received an additional five years of post-release supervision for the weapons charges.
