On the morning of May 8, 2025, 29-year-old Black male Jahquell Villegas was fatally shot at a Shell gas station located on West Sugar Creek Road in Charlotte, North Carolina. At approximately 5:30 a.m., Jahquell Villegas was sitting in a vehicle with his girlfriend when he was shot in the face. Despite being transported to a local hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department initiated a homicide investigation, and with assistance from the community, identified 44-year-old Terry Johnson as the suspect. Investigators determined that the shooting stemmed from a fight, with Johnson allegedly fleeing the scene on an e-bike. On May 9, 2025, CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team arrested Johnson without incident. He was interviewed by detectives and subsequently transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office. Johnson has been charged with first-degree murder.
Court documents reveal that after the shooting, Johnson fled the scene on an electric bike and later left the bike and bloodied clothes at the home of a woman who knew him as "Poo." The woman contacted 911 and provided information that led to Johnson's identification and arrest. Jahquell Villegas' family has been notified of both his death and the arrest of Terry Johnson. The investigation into this case remains active and ongoing.
