Catoine Tyreke Funderburk, a 27-year-old African American male, was tragically killed in a shooting on August 13, 2022, in northwest Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sumter Avenue near Rozzelles Ferry Road. Officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call and found Funderburk suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite the efforts of MEDIC, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Funderburk was a young father, leaving behind a family, including a young child. The shooting incident has left the community in shock and mourning. A neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted the terrifying moments when bullets flew through her apartment, forcing her to take cover. She later discovered that the bullets had killed her neighbor, Funderburk.
The CMPD has been actively investigating the case, but as of now, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. Homicide detectives are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation. The community remains hopeful that justice will be served for Funderburk and his grieving family.
