On February 7, 2025, Shayla Key, a 21-year-old woman, was tragically killed in a shooting at the Hawthorne Place apartment complex in Independence, Missouri. Authorities responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 2:45 a.m. at a residence located on East 5th Street North, just off Highway 291. Upon arrival, officers discovered Shayla Key inside the home, suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
