In a quiet residential area near the Missouri River, the afternoon of March 25, 2025, was shattered by the sound of screeching tires and a barrage of gunfire. Worried neighbors on the 2500 block of Saddle Ridge Drive in Florissant, a suburb of St. Louis, heard what some described as at least eight gunshots. Soon after, a black car was seen speeding away from the scene. The St. Louis County Police Department received a call for a shooting at approximately 12:25 p.m.
and dispatched officers to the location.
Upon their arrival, police discovered 23-year-old Kyree Chapman, a male resident of St. Louis, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The investigation into the homicide began immediately, with detectives from the Bureau of Crimes Against Persons canvassing the neighborhood and a K-9 unit searching the area for evidence. Initially, the police did not have a suspect in custody and urged the public to come forward with any information.
The investigation led to the arrest of Leroy McCauley. According to court records, McCauley had spoken about his intention to kill Chapman prior to the shooting. He allegedly orchestrated a fake marijuana deal to lure Chapman out of his home. As Chapman exited his residence, McCauley, who had been lying in wait, opened fire, shooting him several times. In a chilling detail, police stated that McCauley started to leave the scene but then returned to shoot Chapman several more times. McCauley now faces charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action for his alleged role in the death of Kyree Chapman.
