On February 9, 2025, Brown was driving a white SUV along Johnston Street with her 60-year-old husband, Kevin Brown, in the passenger seat and two children in the back. What began as a verbal altercation between the couple escalated with horrific speed as Kevin Brown produced a firearm and shot his wife multiple times, killing her while the vehicle
was still in motion.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Kevin Brown turned the weapon on himself, inflicting a fatal wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries. The two children in the backseat managed to escape the vehicle amidst the chaos. One of the children was able to flag down a passing motorist for help and was taken to the Lafayette Police Department. The other child was struck by a vehicle while fleeing and sustained minor injuries.
