In a quiet neighborhood in Verona, Mississippi, the life of 31-year-old Christopher Young was tragically cut short. On the evening of Wednesday, April 9, 2025, police responded to a call of a shooting at a residence on ABC Avenue. Inside, they discovered Young, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his upper chest.
Initial confusion surrounded the circumstances of the shooting, with some early reports suggesting it might have been a drive-by.
However, Verona's police chief later clarified that this was not the case and that Young was the sole victim of the incident, which took place inside the home. At the time of the shooting, a barbecue was being held at the residence.
The investigation quickly pointed toward a person of interest, and law enforcement agencies began their search for the individual. The efforts of the Verona Police Department, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals, led to the apprehension of 28-year-old Quintel Montgomery in Tunica County. Montgomery was taken into custody and subsequently transported back to Lee County to face charges.
Following his arrest, Montgomery was charged with first-degree murder, shooting into a dwelling, and possession of a weapon by a felon. It was also revealed that at the time of the alleged offenses, Montgomery was out on a felony bond for a robbery charge from the previous year. In court, a judge denied bond for Montgomery, ensuring he would remain in custody as the legal proceedings move forward. The community was left to mourn the loss of Christopher Young as the case against his accused killer began to unfold.
