The incident unfolded on the morning of February 16, 2025. According to the St.
John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office, Hubbard herself called 911 and admitted to shooting Jones in the chest. When deputies arrived at the residence, they found Jones unresponsive with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators reported that the argument began over the food prepared for breakfast and also involved personal finances.
Hubbard was taken into custody without incident and booked into the parish jail. Her bond was set at $1 million. While the couple's relationship was described as volatile, there were no prior documented reports of domestic violence with the sheriff's office. Jones's family expressed their profound grief, describing him as his mother's only child who was very attentive to her, especially since the passing of his father when he was a teenager. His aunt mentioned that he was getting ready for church at the time of the incident and that his mother was unaware of Hubbard's presence at the house that morning.
