In the early hours of a Sunday morning in La Place, Louisiana, the life of 32-year-old Trey Johnson was tragically cut short. On February 15, 2026, at approximately 12:45 a.m., law enforcement responded to a call on North Sugar Ridge Drive regarding a man lying on the ground after being shot. Upon their arrival, deputies discovered Trey Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services promptly transported Johnson to Ochsner Medical Complex in LaPlace.
Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. The incident also resulted in injuries to a second individual, a 39-year-old man, who was taken to the same hospital by a private vehicle for treatment. The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office launched a homicide investigation into the shooting.
Later that same day, the investigation led to the identification of a suspect. Andrew Brown, a 33-year-old resident of LaPlace, was taken into custody by authorities shortly after 9:30 p.m. Brown was subsequently booked on charges of second-degree murder for the death of Trey Johnson and attempted second-degree murder in connection with the injury of the second victim. He is being held at the parish jail on a $1.25 million bond.
