In the late hours of April 19, 2025, the life of 51-year-old Steckie Black, a male resident of Jackson, Mississippi, was tragically cut short. Responding to a call just before midnight, officers from the Jackson Police Department arrived at the 100 block of Savannah Street to find Black with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, marking the city's 20th homicide of the year.
The investigation into Black's death quickly pointed towards a suspect.
Two days after the discovery of Black's body, on April 21, 2025, the Jackson Police Department issued a murder warrant for 47-year-old Charles Mack. Authorities publicly identified Mack as the individual sought in connection with the fatal shooting.
Despite the issuance of an arrest warrant, Charles Mack remained at large as of late April 2025. The Jackson Police Department continued their search and appealed to the public for any information that could lead to his apprehension. The case remains an open and active investigation, with law enforcement working to bring a resolution to the violent death of Steckie Black.
