On March 17, 2005, Jackson Police Department Patrolman Thomas Catchings, a nine-year veteran of the force, was returning home from motorcycle training when his path crossed with a violent crime in progress. A citizen flagged him down at the intersection of Robinson Road and Pecan Park Circle, reporting that they had just been carjacked. Without hesitation, Patrolman Catchings located the stolen vehicle and initiated a pursuit, calling for backup as the car sped away.
