In the early morning hours of October 8, 2025, the body of 68-year-old Jerry B. Lee was discovered in a ditch near his home on Abram Ford Drive in Jackson, Mississippi. An investigation by the Jackson Police Department revealed that Lee had been the victim of a brutal attack, having been shot and stabbed multiple times. This violent act marked the city's 48th homicide of the year.
The initial investigation did not immediately point to a motive or any suspects.
However, detectives worked quickly, and by the evening of the following day, they had identified a person of interest.
Investigators arrested 42-year-old Kelarce McElroy in connection with the death of Jerry B. Lee. It is believed that an altercation between McElroy and Lee preceded the fatal assault. McElroy was subsequently charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of narcotics. A municipal court judge set his bond at $1.6 million. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deadly encounter remains ongoing.
