In the late hours of May 25, 2016, the sound of over 50 gunshots shattered the night at the Westwick Apartments on Flag Chapel Road in Jackson, Mississippi. When the chaos subsided, 19-year-old Juwan Sims, a Black male, was found near an apartment building with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency services arrived at the scene, but it was too late; Sims was pronounced dead. The Jackson Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation into the violent death of the young man.
