In February 2025, a welfare check at a Salisbury, Maryland, apartment led to the unfortunate discovery of 57-year-old Roy Walters, a Black male, who was found deceased with apparent gunshot wounds. The initial investigation by the Salisbury Police Department quickly evolved into a homicide case, with the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit taking the lead.
The focus of the investigation soon turned to the victim's son, 31-year-old Jabril Roynell Walters of Princess Anne.
Authorities announced they were seeking him as a person of interest, believing he might have crucial information regarding his father's death. It was also revealed that Jabril Walters had an outstanding warrant for a first-degree assault that occurred in July 2024. A physical description of Jabril was released to the public as law enforcement sought assistance in locating him.
After a nearly five-month search, Jabril Walters was apprehended in July 2025 in Auburn, Maine. Investigators believe he had fled to Maine after his father's death and was living under an alias. His arrest was the result of a coordinated effort by the Maine Violent Offender Task Force.
Following his capture, Jabril Walters was charged with first and second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime in connection with the shooting of his father, and five counts of first-degree assault related to the prior incident. He was held in custody in Maine while awaiting extradition back to Maryland to face these charges.
