On April 7, 2021, 28-year-old Gerald Nash, a male resident of Caroline County, Maryland, was fatally shot in Salisbury. The incident unfolded in the early morning hours inside a residence on Hill Street. An assailant entered the home through an unlocked rear door and shot Nash multiple times as he lay in bed. Emergency services transported Nash to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the homicide led police to two suspects
from Salisbury: 27-year-old Drequan Savage and 25-year-old Leslie Teo. Investigators determined that the attack was part of a preconceived plan to rob Nash of property that Savage believed Nash had stolen from him. Savage had arranged with a co-conspirator to be informed when Nash was at the residence and for the back door to be left unlocked, facilitating the assailant's entry. Both Savage and Teo were arrested and charged with first and second-degree murder, among other offenses. They were held at the Wicomico County Detention Center without bond. Authorities also indicated that a third, unnamed suspect was believed to have been involved and was sought.
In September 2022, Drequan Savage was convicted of second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The court proceedings revealed Savage's role in orchestrating the fatal shooting. In November 2022, a judge sentenced Savage to the maximum term of 60 years in prison for his involvement in Gerald Nash's murder.
