In the early hours of a Saturday morning in downtown Shreveport, Louisiana, the vibrant nightlife was shattered by gunfire that ended the life of 24-year-old Noah Letrell Penn, a Black male. The tragic event unfolded on March 15, 2025, near the Haze nightclub on Texas Street, a place that would become the scene of a devastating act of violence. Another man, 28-year-old JaCorey Fuller, also lost his life in the shooting, while two other individuals sustained injuries, turning a night out into a
scene of chaos and loss.
Shreveport Police officers responded to reports of the shooting at approximately 2:35 AM. Upon their arrival, they discovered a chaotic scene with multiple victims. Emergency services transported the injured to Ochsner Health Hospital, but despite their efforts, both Noah Penn and JaCorey Fuller succumbed to their gunshot wounds. The two other victims were treated for their injuries and were expected to recover. The incident marked the city's eighth and ninth homicides of the year.
In the immediate aftermath, investigators from the Shreveport Police Violent Crimes unit began the arduous task of piecing together the events of that fatal night. Initial reports indicated that while several witnesses heard the gunshots, none had seen the shooter, leaving law enforcement with a challenging investigation ahead. However, their efforts led to a significant breakthrough.
Later, it was reported that on the night of the shooting, the Shreveport Police Department had arrested a suspect in connection with the deadly incident. Contavius Taylor was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder. The owner of Club Haze later addressed the Shreveport Public Safety Committee, stating that the club had been proactive in trying to manage a crowd that had gathered outside and had even called 911 about a fight prior to the shooting.
