In the afternoon hours of Valentine's Day 2022, a dispute that authorities believe began over a stolen firearm escalated into deadly violence on a street in Shreveport, Louisiana, claiming the life of a young father. The victim was identified as Jaqorius DSean Cory Willis, a 24-year-old African American male. The incident unfolded shortly after 2:00 p.m. in the 1900 block of Downing Street, situated in the Martin Luther King Jr. neighborhood.
Responding to reports of a shooting, Shreveport Police Department officers arrived to find Willis suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was rushed to Ochsner LSU Health hospital for medical attention but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
According to the preliminary investigation, Willis was reportedly getting into a vehicle with another person when another car approached. An exchange of gunfire ensued, during which Willis was fatally wounded. The violence of the encounter was further evidenced by two vehicles at the scene that were also struck by bullets.
