On the evening of March 7, 2025, the life of Jackie Jo Torrez, a 34-year-old white female from Saginaw, Michigan, was tragically cut short in a hotel room in Auburn-Hills. The incident unfolded at approximately 10:45 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express on Baldwin Road, where police had been dispatched to investigate a report of a possible domestic violence situation.
As officers approached the hotel room, they heard two gunshots ring out from within.
Upon immediate entry into the room, law enforcement discovered a devastating scene. Jackie Jo Torrez was found deceased, the victim of a fatal shooting. Alongside her was the body of 33-year-old Marcus Isaiah Taylor of Vassar, Michigan, who authorities identified as the suspect. The investigation concluded that Taylor had shot and killed Torrez before taking his own life in a murder-suicide. Miraculously, a 3-year-old girl who was also in the room was found unharmed. She was taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure and was later released into the care of a family member.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office Crime Lab was called to assist in the investigation, and the Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office was tasked with performing autopsies on both Torrez and Taylor. Authorities have described the tragic event as an isolated incident between the two individuals.
