On January 9, 2025, 18-year-old African American male Nicholas Malachi Griffin was fatally shot in Champaign, Illinois. The incident occurred around 3:59 p.m. in the 1900 block of Cynthia Drive. Upon arrival, officers found Nicholas with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical aid and transport to a local hospital, he was pronounced dead at 4:28 p.m.
