On a spring afternoon, the life of 16-year-old Derrick Palmer, an African American male, was cut tragically short inside his own Beltsville, Maryland, home. It was May 10, 2025, and Derrick was spending time with two friends in his bedroom on Heartwood Drive. One of his friends, 18-year-old Kimaury Kamara, a childhood acquaintance visiting from Pennsylvania, began playing with a handgun.
