On the evening of December 30, 2024, a grim discovery was made at a car wash on Bellemeade Drive in Marietta, Georgia. A 59-year-old man, Daniel Lanard Richardson Jr., was found unresponsive, lying in the middle of a car wash bay with gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene, but their efforts to render aid were in vain, and he was pronounced dead.
The Marietta Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting death of the male victim.
Through the use of technology and interviews with witnesses, detectives were able to identify a suspect in the case. Investigators determined that Richardson and the suspect were acquaintances, though the full extent of their relationship was not immediately clear.
Less than two weeks later, on Monday, January 13, 2025, an arrest was made in connection with Richardson's death. Seventy-year-old Robert Baker, also of Marietta, was taken into custody. Baker now faces multiple serious charges, including felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He is currently being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center as the investigation continues. While an arrest has been made, authorities have not yet disclosed a possible motive for the shooting.
