In the early morning hours of March 4, 2025, the life of 16-year-old Arsenio Jackson Jr., a Black male, was tragically cut short in Lexington, Kentucky. Just before 2 a.m., police responded to reports of gunfire in the 700 block of Rambling Creek Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered the young man lying in the street, having sustained a gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene approximately an hour after the shooting.
Arsenio was a junior at Henry Clay High School, and his death sent ripples of grief and outrage through the community. In the wake of the incident, friends, family, and community members gathered to release balloons in his memory and call for an end to gun violence. Lexington's mayor, Linda Gorton, expressed her sorrow, stating that gun violence, especially when it claims the life of a young person, is tragic and unacceptable. Community activists highlighted the urgent need for collective action to prevent similar tragedies.
The investigation into Arsenio's death moved forward, leading to the apprehension of two suspects. On March 12, 2025, a 17-year-old was arrested and charged with murder. A month later, on April 14, a second teenager, aged 16, was also taken into custody and faced the same charge. Both of the accused are being held in a juvenile detention center as the investigation continues.
