On February 2, 2025, Rolando Jose Silva, a 68-year-old Hispanic male, was fatally shot inside his home on Ramos Avenue in Hayward, California. Authorities responded to the scene at approximately 9:10 a.m. after receiving a report from a woman stating that her landlord had been shot. Upon arrival, officers discovered Silva suffering from a gunshot wound.
Paramedics from the Hayward Fire Department pronounced him dead at the scene.
Later that day, detectives identified 43-year-old Larry Jose Lopez, an auto mechanic from Hayward, as the primary suspect in Silva’s death. Lopez and Silva had reportedly known each other for approximately 25 years. Lopez was arrested at 7:42 p.m. and booked into Alameda County’s Santa Rita Jail, where he is being held without bail. The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has charged Lopez with murder, along with an enhancement for the use of a firearm causing great bodily injury or death.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Silva’s death. If convicted, Lopez faces a sentence of 50 years to life in state prison. Law enforcement officials have urged anyone with additional information to contact the Hayward Police Department.
