On July 13, 2024, at approximately 10:31 a.m., Hayward police responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Pompano Avenue and Sumatra Street. Upon arrival, officers found evidence of gunfire but no victim. Shortly thereafter, additional reports directed them to the 27000 block of Havana Avenue, where they discovered 18-year-old Angel Enciso Ayala in the driver's seat of a vehicle that had collided with a parked car.
