Angel Enciso Ayala was an 18-year-old Hispanic man from the Hayward, California, area. His family remembered him as full of life.
On the morning of July 13, 2024, Angel was driving on the 27000 block of Pompano Avenue in Hayward when another vehicle passed his. As the two cars were alongside each other, someone in the passing vehicle opened fire, striking Angel in the neck. He lost control of his car and crashed a short distance away on Havana Avenue.
First responders transported him to a local hospital, where he was placed on life support. He died from his injuries about seven hours later.
Investigators quickly focused on the vehicle used in the shooting, a Chevrolet Suburban, which was registered to Daniel Ramos, age 46. Police also identified a second man, 26-year-old Angel Pimentil, as a potential accomplice. An examination of the Suburban’s computer system revealed that a cellphone belonging to Pimentil had been connected to the vehicle’s Bluetooth system before, during, and after the homicide.
In October 2024, authorities arrested Daniel Ramos. Both he and Angel Pimentil were charged with murder, shooting at an occupied motor vehicle, and shooting from an occupied motor vehicle. Police identified Ramos as the suspected shooter and Pimentil as an aider and abettor. Ramos, who was held without bail, also faced a gun enhancement charge. Authorities have not released a motive for the shooting or stated whether Angel was the intended target.
While Ramos was in custody, Pimentil remained at large for several months. On May 13, 2025, authorities located and arrested Angel Pimentil at the Fremont BART station on the outstanding murder warrant. As of June 2025, the case was proceeding through the court system.
