In the quiet town of LaGrange, Georgia, a grim discovery was made on the night of Saturday, February 8, 2025, that would unravel a story of violence and tragedy. Firefighters, responding to reports of a house fire on Fendig Street around 11:30 p.m., entered the smoke-filled residence after extinguishing the flames. Inside, they found the bodies of 40-year-old Roderick Kennedy, a male, and 38-year-old Jabreka Williams.
It soon became apparent that the fire was not the cause of their deaths; both individuals had been shot.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly led authorities to a suspect. The day after the bodies were discovered, Travis Rivers was taken into custody on charges unrelated to the murder investigation. However, by the following Friday, the LaGrange Police Department had gathered enough evidence to charge Rivers in connection with the deaths of Kennedy and Williams. The motive for the killings has not been publicly released by investigators.
Travis Rivers now faces a series of charges related to the deaths, including two counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, home invasion, and possession of a firearm. Prior to the murder charges, he was already being held on a felony probation violation warrant and aggravated stalking charges. Rivers is currently being held at the Troup County Jail as the legal process moves forward.
