On the evening of March 29, 2025, the life of a 21-year-old White/Caucasian male, Landen Roggenkamp, was tragically cut short in Olathe, Kansas. The events of that night unfolded in a residence in the 1400 block of East Mart-Way Circle. Roggenkamp and another man, 25-year-old Armando Javier Guerrero, were together and had been drinking heavily. An altercation broke out between the two, the details of which remain clouded by intoxication.
Before the situation escalated to its fatal conclusion, Roggenkamp made a Snapchat video call to a friend, pleading for help to come to Guerrero's residence. The friend noted that both men were slurring their words and appeared emotional.
Responding to a call for police assistance just before 10 p.m., Olathe Police officers arrived at the quadruplex to a grim scene. They discovered Landen Roggenkamp inside, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services were immediately dispatched, and Roggenkamp was rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The initial call to authorities was for an unknown reason, but the investigation quickly turned into a homicide case.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Armando Guerrero fled the residence on foot. A witness who had received a second call for help from Roggenkamp arrived to find Guerrero leaving the scene and discovered Roggenkamp inside the bedroom. Olathe Police established a perimeter and began a search for the suspect. During their search, they encountered Guerrero and noted what appeared to be blood on his clothing. He was taken into custody that same night.
Initially, Armando Javier Guerrero was charged with voluntary manslaughter in connection with Landen Roggenkamp's death and was held on a $1 million bond. In August 2025, Guerrero pleaded guilty to the charge of voluntary manslaughter. In court, it was revealed that Guerrero admitted to shooting Roggenkamp after their altercation but could not recall the number of shots fired due to his level of intoxication. In September 2025, a judge sentenced Guerrero to 55 months in prison for his role in the death of Landen Roggenkamp. The community mourned the loss of the young man, who was remembered as an "incredible person taken too soon."
