What appeared to be a successful life, with a loving family and a thriving career, unraveled in a shocking act of violence that left a community in disbelief. Mabion, a former college football standout at Emporia State University, was known for his charismatic personality.
He was a businessman, serving as the administrator for a home health care company, and a family man, married to Amy Mabion with whom he shared three children.
Behind the facade of a happy home, however, there was turmoil. Just weeks before their deaths, Amy Mabion had filed for divorce, citing incompatibility. Despite this, friends and family noted that the couple was still living together and had even recently vacationed together. This made the events that unfolded in their home on that fateful Monday afternoon all the more incomprehensible to those who knew them.
When police responded to a call from the Mabion residence, they discovered a grim scene. Both Philip and Amy had sustained gunshot wounds. Amy was pronounced dead at the scene, while Philip was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The investigation that followed pointed to a grim conclusion: a murder-suicide.
Authorities determined that Philip Mabion was the sole suspect in the death of his wife. It is believed that he shot Amy before turning the gun on himself.
