On a late Thursday afternoon in June, police were called to a residence in Olathe, Kansas, for a welfare check. Inside the home, located on the 13100 block of South Brougham Drive, they made a grim discovery. The body of a 36-year-old male, Andrew G. Lyman, was found, his life ended by a gunshot wound.
The scene within the house told a more complete and tragic story. Officers also located the body of a 70-year-old woman inside the residence.
The woman, who was a family member and lived with Lyman, appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The investigation that followed pointed to a murder-suicide. The Olathe Police Department has not released further details about the events that transpired leading up to the deaths. As the incident is being investigated as a murder-suicide, police are not searching for any suspects. The name of the 70-year-old woman has not been publicly released.
