On February 5, 2025, 14-year-old Armando Gilbert, an African American boy, was fatally shot while riding his bicycle in Tampa, Florida. The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. near the intersection of North Hillsborough Lane and East Juneau Street. Armando was accompanied by another juvenile when 15-year-old Marquis Lee, also African American, confronted him. Lee, reportedly circling the intersection on his bike, approached Armando and shot him multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Armando was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead from upper body trauma.
The Tampa Police Department, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, arrested Marquis Lee on February 6, 2025, around 6:10 p.m. Investigators determined that Lee and Armando had prior disputes leading up to the shooting.
