Darnell Harvey, a 33-year-old Black man from Antioch, California, was killed in a shooting in East Oakland in the early morning hours of February 9, 2025.
The incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. at a house on the 2500 block of 62nd Avenue. The sound of gunfire triggered nearby electronic gunshot detection systems, and Oakland police officers were dispatched to the scene. When they arrived, they found Darnell Harvey suffering from numerous gunshot wounds.
He was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.
During their investigation at the house, authorities found an AR-15-style pistol inside the garage. A few days later, on February 13, police arrested a man named Jackson in connection with a separate, unrelated homicide. While in custody for that case, Jackson allegedly admitted to investigators that he owned the AR-15-style pistol that had been recovered from the scene of Darnell Harvey's shooting.
Although Jackson was not charged with Harvey’s murder, the Alameda County District Attorney's Office filed three weapons-related counts against him linked to the firearm found at the scene. The charges included possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of an assault weapon, and possession of ammunition by a prohibited person.
Jackson subsequently missed a court date for these weapons charges. An Alameda County judge then issued a $110,000 bench warrant for his arrest. As of February 2025, no arrests have been made for the killing of Darnell Harvey, and his homicide remains unsolved.
