Justin Esco, a 25-year-old resident of Vallejo, California, was fatally shot on April 17, 2020, in East Oakland. The incident occurred around 10:37 p.m. on the 9700 block of Golf Links Road, near Knowland Park. Esco was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man, a 21-year-old from Contra Costa County, was also injured in the shooting but survived.

The investigation into Esco's death led to the arrest and subsequent conviction of Danny Webb, Jr. Webb, who was on parole for a previous homicide, was found guilty of first-degree murder and the personal and intentional discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury. According to court documents, Webb, along with several accomplices, surrounded Esco's car and opened fire. Webb was injured during the incident when one of the victims returned fire.
