Jamal Cheeks, a 21-year-old resident of Oakland, California, tragically lost his life on October 31, 2014. The incident occurred around 3:55 p.m. at a home located in the 2000 block of 22nd Avenue. Cheeks was fatally shot in the neck by his best friend, Damian L. Joseph, who was 20 years old at the time. According to the police, Joseph claimed that he was "playing" with a semi-automatic pistol, which he believed to be unloaded, when he accidentally pulled the trigger, resulting in Cheeks' death.
