Herron Adams, a 26-year-old Oakland resident, was tragically killed on the evening of October 1, 2012. The incident occurred outside the Two Star Market and Liquor Store located at 2020 MacArthur Blvd in the Dimond district. Adams had just purchased a bottle of wine and was walking back to his car when he was suddenly shot. The force of the attack caused him to fall through the store's window, and he died at the scene.
This violent shooting was part of a spate of violence in Oakland, where five people were killed over an 18-hour span around that time.
Adams, who was affectionately known as "Whoop" to his friends and family, was the oldest of four siblings. He was seen as a mentor and a best friend to his brothers. His sister, Sandra Adams, expressed her disbelief and deep grief at his loss. She mentioned that her brother had recently been released from jail and that this was not his first encounter with gunfire—he had previously survived another shooting incident. Herron Adams left behind a young family, including a four-year-old son and a newborn baby, making his untimely death especially devastating for those close to him.
Despite the tragic nature of this shooting, no arrests have been made, and the case remains unsolved. The Oakland Police Department, in conjunction with Crime Stoppers, offered a reward of up to $10,000 for any information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. The community and family are still searching for answers, and this homicide is part of the larger problem of violence that plagued Oakland during that year, with a rising homicide count and few resolutions for grieving families.
